Workmanship Warranty
Every Five Star project is backed by a written workmanship warranty. We stand behind our work — not just on the day we finish, but for years after we leave your property.
Warranty Coverage
Workmanship warranties cover defects in installation quality. Material warranties are provided separately by manufacturers.
Chimney Rebuilding
Full above-roofline chimney rebuilds carry a 10-year workmanship warranty. If any mortar joint fails or brick shifts due to our installation, we return and repair at no cost.
Metal Roofing
Standing-seam and corrugated steel panel installations are backed by a 10-year workmanship warranty. Panel manufacturers provide 40–50 year material warranties on qualifying products.
Tuckpointing & Masonry
Tuckpointing and mortar joint restoration carries a 5-year workmanship warranty. Mortar is a consumable material subject to Cleveland's freeze-thaw cycles, but our mix ratios and application technique are guaranteed.
Chimney Crowns & Caps
Poured concrete crowns carry a 5-year workmanship warranty. Stainless steel chimney caps are warranted for life against rust and structural failure.
Chimney Flashing
Chimney flashing installations are warranted against leaks for 5 years. If water penetrates at the flashing joint due to our installation, we return and re-flash at no charge.
Chimney Liners (HeatShield)
HeatShield flue resurfacing carries a 5-year workmanship warranty from Five Star plus a 20-year manufacturer warranty from HeatShield Products on the resurfacing material itself.
Shingle Roofing
Asphalt shingle installations carry a 5-year workmanship warranty. Shingle manufacturers provide 25–50 year material warranties depending on the product line selected.
Deck & Porch Construction
Deck and porch builds carry a 3-year workmanship warranty covering structural integrity, fastener failure, and post anchoring. Composite decking products carry separate manufacturer warranties of 25–50 years.
Interior Remodeling
Kitchen, bathroom, and interior renovation work carries a 1-year workmanship warranty. All installed fixtures, cabinets, and appliances carry their respective manufacturer warranties.

Backed by CSIA Certification
Michael McCloskey is a CSIA-Certified Chimney Sweep (#12678) — one of fewer than 9,000 certified professionals in the entire United States. This credential requires passing rigorous written and practical examinations administered by the Chimney Safety Institute of America. When you hire Five Star, you're hiring someone who has formally demonstrated mastery of chimney safety, construction, and repair standards.
CSIA Certification is renewed every three years through continuing education. It is not a self-issued credential.
Warranty FAQ
How do I make a warranty claim?
Call us at 216-468-4864 or use the contact form on our website. Describe the issue and reference your project date. We'll schedule an inspection within 5 business days and repair any covered defect at no cost.
Does the warranty transfer if I sell my home?
Yes — Five Star workmanship warranties are transferable to the next homeowner for the remainder of the warranty period. This can be a selling point when listing your home. Contact us to update the warranty registration.
What voids the warranty?
Warranties are voided by: (1) damage caused by events outside our control (storms, falling trees, fire, flooding), (2) modifications made to our work by another contractor, or (3) failure to maintain the structure in a reasonable condition (e.g., ignoring a roof leak that damages flashing we installed).
Are manufacturer warranties separate from Five Star's warranty?
Yes. Manufacturer warranties cover material defects and are handled directly with the manufacturer. Five Star's workmanship warranty covers installation quality. In practice, most claims are handled through Five Star first — we coordinate with manufacturers on your behalf when needed.
Do you provide a written warranty?
Yes. Every project over $1,000 receives a written warranty document at project completion. It specifies the warranty period, covered scope, and the process for making a claim. Keep this document with your home records.
